My favorite hobby is crocheting doll clothes. Using what I’ve learned from reading existing patterns, I create my own designs for Barbie.

In Colorblocking Clothes in Crochetthe main photo I used was from watbetty’s colorblocked sheath dress in Ravelry. I wanted to make something similar to it, so this was my first attempt at making a sheath dress with straps.

A sheath dress consists of a figure-hugging silhouette with a defined waist. While it hugs the body similar to a bodycon dress, it can have longer lengths and does not necessarily have to stick like a second skin.

Rows 33 – Repeat Row 32 with the middle sc stitches increasing by 2 for each row until the middle stitch count reaches 22 sc.

Row 48 sc. Row Ch 1, sc in the first 7 sc, ch 10, sk the next 9 sc, sc in the next 16 sc, ch 10, sk the next 9 sc, sc in the last 7 sc, turn.

You should try joining the chains first before working the first row of sc’s. All of my patterns are reflections of what crochet knowledge I have back when I created the design, and I didn’t know that I could actually join chains before working on the first row of sc’s.

This should help out with the space you see at the first joining. Lovely dress! I am struggling to make the starting first round to look good I was hoping t get a nice finish like seamless but I am failing terribly.

The next Rows can be adjusted by using snaps, anyway, so are less important when figuring out whether yoi have the right gauge or hook.

I use us 1 hook 2. I think I have tried every pattern you have written and i have found that the dresses fit perfectly every time.

While I agree with you about wanting to get inside watbetty’s brain, I’m just sharing my own notes pattern and try my best to create the look that I want.

This is great, thank you — but watbetty makes them, at least the color blocked ones, flat. Sews them up afterwards.

Makes doing the blocking easier than in the round, certainly. Her dresses fit like gloves, hugging every curve of each doll. I wish for an hour I could get inside her brain and write out her basic patterns!!!

I’ll probably try to make some form of socks in the near future. I’m just not sure if it’s possible to make it thigh high without the whole thing falling off of Barbie.
