Just had my last fitting. It seemed really tight to me. I can’t take a deep breath. It feels kind alike it’s crushing my ribs. I have gained like 8 pounds the last couple months.

When I talked to several women about how tight it felt, they all told me it’s not supposed to be like that. Apperently I’m supposed to be able to breath.

But its strappless I don’t want it falling off.

They all told me I should go back and make them fix it. I’ve been crying about this.

At that point I gave up because there wasn’t enough time to alter it before the wedding. Wedding dress too tight around back ribs Is it possible to alter a dress up one size?

I’d like to be able to say I’m gonna loose some weight so it’ll fit better. But thats a big gamble. My mothers dead I have no sisters, I’m lost.

I would suggest calling the same place and seeing if there is anything they could help you with If they are going to charge you it shouldn’t be more than like 50 dollars to fix Don’t worry about trying to loose weight and just call to figure out what you can do No matter what don’t add extra stress for yourself what you need done isn’t that bad and should take only a couple of days to fix!

But your day is going to be wonderful and you are going to look amazing You should not have a dress on the most important day of your life that is so tight it feels like it’s crushing your ribs.

Call up the alterations people today and explain what you told us here about the fit of the dress. Have them re-alter it and see if the alterations are included in what you already paid.

If not, I’m afraid you’ll need to pay what it costs to alter it.

You’re right–it would be a gamble to try to lose 8 lbs in 19 days. But to be on the safe side, see what you can do to take a to calories out of your diet per day to at least lose a few pounds, such as filling half your plate with vegetables, not eating fried foods or dessert other than fruit.

Two things Find a good seamstress now. Don’t use David’s Bridal. Ask friends or look one up in the yellow pages go see them and have a fitting and get their honest feedback.

Someone that is good at what they do can see if the dress can be let out any, if certain kind of “foundation garments” aka corsets will help you fit, etc.

If the seamstress doesn’t think they can make alterations to make the dress work you have time to order another one David’s Bridal I’m sure will not give you any kind of refund–they have that all over their policies that all sales are final.

Or you can find a gym, hire a personal trainer and try to slim down enough to fit. Weight Watchers or some other program could also be useful.

We’re talking 8 months Good luck! I just want to say I am so sorry that you are going through this, its amazing what people have to go through when they are getting married, and I can’t believe your alterations cost you that much.

I am a seamstress and I couldn’t imagine any alterations on one dress costing that much. You shouldn’t have to loose anymore weight to fit into the dress, they should fix it at no cost since they didn’t do it right in the first place.

If you can’t get it fixed then you can do this, have someone put there hands in the dress where it is tight and gently start stretching it out and keep doing this repeatedly while you have it on, believe it or not it does help some.

Another option would be to put laces on the dress like a corset style that way you could get it tight were you want and loose were you want.

Laces shouldn’t take a long time, I can get mine done in a day.

Call the bridal shop and you don’t have to give them your name – just tell them the sitch and see if they will let it out a little. It won’t fall off – they just need to let it out may be 2 inches so easy for them to do by the way.

Do make sure you are eating healthy and keeping up with a little exercise – this will help with the stress and may be with a pound or 2.

Take a deep breath – it will all work out. Gee, that sounds so expensive for alterations. I think they really took you for a ride, but what can you do.

I would find a good bridal dressmaker or go to a upscale drycleaner that has a seamstress on staff and ask her if she could but something that in the sewing trade is called a “Gusset”.

What they do is open up the seam on each side and add a strip of fabric hopefully the same fabric to give you the room you need.

Please don’t cry If you cannot get the same fabric, coordinate say “white satin” with the fabric you have on the dress.

It will hardly be noticable. Also, go back to the bridal store and ask them if they could put gussets in, but make sure they do it free of charge.

They will know what a gusset is. Too bad I didn’t live near you, I would have it done it for you as I can sew. But in any case, forget the past, what happened, and get this done.

You need to call your alterations place and in a calm, polite, yet firm voice you need to discuss your dress and the problems relating to fit.

As you have spent far more than necessary on alterations already, they should alter it for no additional cost. The key is the understanding that you can’t demand in tears as they will just consider you a “bridzilla” which is not what you are.
